As a generally shy person, having all of these friendly faces surround me left me feeling much more at ease with the whole situation! But, honestly, the entire thing felt extremely comfortable! Hey, when you have people showing up with multiple piercings, different shades of hair color, tattoos, and pirate hats (oh yeah!)....you just KNOW you're in good company! While it may sound like a rather strange group of people, to me, there's something so familiar about all the chaos!
I never really fit in, ever. Don't get me wrong, I had my group of close friends, and I got along with pretty much everyone...but, I didn't really have a "place". I always felt like an outsider, even if I wasn't. In a crowd, I was always uncomfortable. Never wanting to draw any kind of attention to myself. When I joined the military, I kind of came out of my shell. You almost had to in order to get through everything. You were forced into every kind of situation imaginable, and, if you didn't speak up you were usually left with cleaning the latrines.....or pulling midnight guard duty!
The Art Community is another place where I don't always feel like I fit in. But, that night, I knew I had found my niche! Being surrounded by fellow people who can see the beauty in tattoos, or the glory in a building covered in paint, was like being surrounded by all the "outcasts"! It was AWESOME! (And, like I said.....you can NEVER go wrong when a guy shows up in a Pirate Hat!)
So, to all my AMAZING friends----THANK YOU for coming out and supporting me! I enjoyed seeing and talking with each and every one of you! You all made my night, and I wouldn't be where I am without all of your encouragement and support (and, in some cases, your down-right pushing!). I look forward to seeing what else this year has in store for me! So far, it's turning out to be pretty amazing! (And, a HUGE shout-out to my friend Sarah for sending me this picture of me with all my beautiful and talented fellow Photographers!)
And....before I forget! In honor of the Gallery Show, I decided to run 2 contests!! If you're in the area and can get to the show (it's open until April 6th), then Photo-bomb one of my pictures and post it to my MaydayMayhems Facebook Page! The ones I'm seeing so far are WONDERFUL!!!! If you aren't in the area, or you can't get to the show....there's a contest for you, too!!! Both contests run until April 15th.
